How to downgrade iOS 6 back to iOS 5.1.1 using Redsn0w
Have you updated your device to iOs 6 and would like to go back to iOS 5.1.1 for whatever reason? The simple process of restoring a device to iOs 5.1.1 won’t work as Apple has stopped signing iOs 5.1.1 so you can’t go back from iOs 6 until you have shsh blobs saved.
You must have had saved shsh blobs when your device was on iOs 5.1.1 using tinyumbrella or any other utility. If you haven’t saved blobs locally on your hard drive then then don’t worry. Blobs are saved on cydia automatically whenever you jailbreak your device. So if you ever jailbroken your device on iOs 5.1.1, congratulations, you have your blobs for 5.1.1. If you don’t have shsh blobs saved locally or on cydia, then sorry, you can’t downgrade.
Note: This method will not work for the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPhone 4S.
So let’s get started. Download the latest version of Redsn0w i,e 0.9.14b2 from our redsn0w page and run it. Also make sure that you have iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file for your device. Visit iOS downloader if you don’t have the file.
How to downgrade iOS 6 back to iOS 5.1.1 using Redsn0w
Go to Extras >> SHSH blobs >> Stitch.
Click on the IPSW button and select iOs 5.1.1 firmware file. If you have shsh files saved on your computer, click Local and select the file. And if you have them on Cydia, first enter DFU mode (Go back to Redsn0w >> Extras >> Pwned dfu) and then select Cydia.
Redsn0w will now build custom 5.1.1 firmware for your device. Please wait while it does. After that, a new iPSW file will be placed inside the same folder where you had original 5.1.1 ipsw file.
Now open iTunes and shift + Click on Restore button. (Mac users ALT + click). A pop up window will be opened asking you to select the ipsw file. Select the file that redsn0w built for you and leave the rest to iTunes to do your work.
If you receive error 3194 while restoring, here’s a fix for that.
If you receive error 1600, 1601, 160x or 29, find a fix for it here.
If you receive error -1 at the end of restore, don’t bother. Simply open up redsn0w again and go to Extras.Then select Fix recovery and follow the on-screen instructions to start up your device on iOS 5.1.1.
