Evinrude Parts Factory or Aftermarket
The outboard parts come in two varieties either aftermarket or OEM parts are available. The demand for them plays the important role of locating parts but basically only certain suppliers will stock items based on demand. I have to say I’ve experienced both ends of the scale here and see both sides. You see it’s not just a matter of someone placing a patent on a design but also the demand for that part must be high to absorb the start up and manufacturing cost associated with it. Many items are old and dated but still are not available for purchase only in the OEM version.
So let’s take an example here when I first got a taste of the whole thing. I needed an impeller for a 175hp Evinrude which sound like it shouldn’t be a big deal. Well I couldn’t believe that the local dealer wanted forty five dollars for it. I did pay for it at the time but was disturbed as upon inspection of the part I noticed it was manufactured just like any other part and put in an OEM box. I did follow up and sure enough that same replacement was available for about eighteen dollars aftermarket. Although it was not in an OEM box that showed it was an authentic Evinrude part, it would still perform the function at less than half the cost.
I know some swear by their factory parts and that is fine, I just have my own opinion about things and do attempt to make an honest judgment between the cheaper brands and those that are authentic. I would say that most of everything I’ve run across, in regard to Evinrude parts, have been equal if not better than the factory parts. I know that we can’t always purchase parts as we would like to but in general thatr is what I think about it.
So Evinrude parts turned out to be a subject I could express some opinions about. Now how about you? Which version will you purchase?
