Techcrunch reports:

We have confirmed the process with AT&T’s technical support and successfully tried it with aT-Mobile SIM card. After restoring the device in iTunes, the user is prompted with the usual unlocking message: “Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked.”

After receiving this message, the user can insert any Nano SIM card for the unlock. These steps are similar to unlocking an AT&T iPhone by our official partner.

iTunes restoration will be needed after the approval from AT&T. There’s another way of doing it as well. You can remove the files in the ‘lockdown folder’ or deactivate the iPhone through the redsn0w tool. Through this, there is no need to do a full restore.s

Those of you with an in-contract iPhone 5 from AT&T can unlock the device through OfficialiPhoneunlock, who are offering a permanent IMEI unlock solution for the latest handset from Apple. After the unlock, the iPhone 5 will work on any carrier of the globe, and can be updated on future firmwares and basebands without any worries. Head over to the website for more details.
